My Bio

An American retired and living in Thailand. The majority of my photos are taken in Bangkok, but there are some collections from other parts of the country. I don’t limit myself to any particular genre, but do prefer all things urban and candid shots of people. My preference is to capture things in the moment, rather than spending a lot of time setting up for and/or staging a shot. Most of my images are captured during photo walks, looking for anything interesting to try and capture.

Street photography has been ruined by social media, You Tube and photo sharing sites, so I no longer want to be associated with it. These days most calling themselves street photographers don't know the difference between urban, candid, portrait and street. It's a real shame. The opposite of poignant is unemotional, unimpressive and blah. Even I got caught up in it, until I did some research and began to understand what Street Photography really is. I'm still trying to identify and remove any "street" tags I added in the past. There is no honor in being a sheep!

My father was a commercial photographer, so I've been around it from a very young age. I started in B&W (analog) when I was 16 and even had my own darkroom. In my late twenties I gave up photography as a serious hobby and didn't get back into it until in my mid 50’s. The basics haven't changed, but digital adds a new layer that I had to come up to speed on. Fast forward a few years and I took another break from photography. The gear just got too heavy for me to lug around. In 2020 I’m getting back into it, once again, but this time using a Canon GX7 II. It ends up being more camera than the big gear I put down in 2013. We’ll see how it goes.

I'm not the greatest photographer that ever lived, but hopefully you will like a few of my shots. :-)

This is a list of the camera gear I have used to take photos on display at Flicker. Going forward (January 2020) any new photos will most likely be from my new G7X II, or the iPhone on rare occasion.

As of this writing I can think of no better photographer, at DA, than InayatShah.   This is a man that does not seek false accolades, yet is more deserving of praise than most. https://www.deviantart.com/inayatshah

Pretty Pictures

There is a difference between a picture of something pretty and a pretty picture of something. The goal of a photographer is to pursue the latter.
